Food Cart Markets

PORTLAND, OR - AKS provided civil engineering and land surveying for Roger Goldingay for two food cart markets. The first market, known as Mississippi Marketplace, opened in 2009 and serves host to 10 food carts and features unique amenities such as toilets, outdoor seating, full-service electrical, and groundskeepers. AKS' stormwater design that serves the 10,000 square foot lot incorporates sustainable stormwater techniques such as pervious pavement and pervious pavers that absorb rain rather than diverting it to the storm drainage system.

Hot off the success of the initial project, a second larger outdoor food cart market was developed to serve bicyclists along the Springwater Corridor. This 35-space outdoor market, named Cartlandia, includes bicycle repair facilities and vendors, covered and heated seating area, in addition to the food cart market, all situated on a one-acre lot.

For both projects, AKS worked closely with the City of Portland to obtain approval for the site development and prepared grading and erosion control plans to City standards and specifications. The project received local attention when it was featured on the local news.
