AKS Engineering is an Award-Winning Workplace

At AKS, we believe in creating a strong community and support network among our staff and clients. But don’t take our word for it—thanks to employee nominations, AKS has been named an Oregonian Top Workplace since 2018.

“Not only am I connecting well with my direct team, but others from different teams are also reaching out!”

“AKS works with personal schedules and does its best to provide needed resources to its employees.”

“Definitely way beyond my expectations. AKS is a very friendly, hospitable, and welcoming environment.”

“I appreciate that AKS allows us to change career paths and are willing to train.”

“I love it here. AKS is an amazing place to work. I am thankful every day I collaborate with such great people at every level.”

“The work is really fun, but the environment is what makes the job.”

Community Is Everything

Building relationships is at the heart of our operations from your first day here to years into your career. We look for opportunities to share meals together, go on team-building adventures, and host events that bring our team and clients together.

A Culture of Learning

We believe there is always more to learn. That is why we encourage our team to quickly answer any questions from a colleague and go out of our way to create a safe learning environment.

Other ways we support continued education include:

  • Covering the cost of professional organization dues and meeting fees
  • Licensing support and cost reimbursement
  • On-the-job training
  • Team site visits
  • Weekly Tech Talks
  • Roundtable discussions
  • Lunch & Learns

Our Clients

Our first job is to serve our clients' needs. We take the time to understand what motivates our clients, what they need, and how we can help them achieve their goals. When we put our clients' needs first, we find everything else has a way of falling into place.

  • “Only rarely do I see this excellent level of planning, communication, and execution of work. The kind of interaction and detailed coordination you demonstrate is exactly what ODOT should do to develop trusting relationships with our partners during design and especially construction. I sleep very well at night knowing [AKS is] involved in this project.”

Giving Back

We believe in being good stewards of our local communities. We regularly schedule volunteer events with Habitat for Humanity, Arbor Day, and other causes near our employees’ hearts. From company-wide efforts to individual service, giving back emphasizes common values and an appreciation for the places we call home.

Encouraging Health & Wellness

We recognize the importance of supporting our employees’ physical and mental health. We go out of our way to create a professional, supportive, flexible, challenging, and fun environment!

AKS offers a robust benefits package to support our employees and their families. In addition to the traditional benefit options, AKS hosts a variety of activities that promote and encourage health and wellness. We fully appreciate the diverse beauty and all the Pacific Northwest offers through regular participation in running events, co-ed sports teams, and even a few cornhole and ping pong tournaments.

AKS offers innovative, human-centered well-being services via our Employee Assistance Program (EAP), from free counseling visits to financial wellness, legal advising, and much more.

Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion

AKS is committed to fostering a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion. We know that a diverse workforce, not subject to implicit or explicit bias, fosters a climate of innovation, collaboration, and collegiality that makes us stronger and more responsive to our clients’ needs.

AKS fully supports Equal Employment Opportunity, Affirmative Action, and the Americans with Disabilities Act. We are committed to recruiting, hiring, promoting, and retaining qualified minorities, including women and individuals with disabilities (IWDs).

Safety Program

The safety of our employees, clients, and visitors is a top priority of AKS. Our goal is zero workplace accidents. To achieve this, AKS has established a safety and health program adapted to fundamental occupational safety and health concepts that will help us prevent injury and illness due to hazards. Safety information is communicated through staff meetings, tailgate meetings, weekly announcements, and other routine communications. We require all employees to be actively involved in preventing injuries and at the same time, the management of AKS is committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment.
