Dearborn Avenue Bridge Now Open

AKS and the City of Keizer celebrated the opening of the new Dearborn Avenue bridge over Claggett Creek with a ribbon cutting on October 16th. The mayor and city councilors joined in to mark the occasion. The new pre-cast bridge replaces an old wood structure that frequently flooded in heavy rains. The new bridge is wider and longer and is designed to sit above the flood levels. Our engineers tackled several significant challenges including accommodating an existing major pipeline that carries all of the wastewater for the City of Salem, wetlands, stormwater collection and treatment, and most notably unstable soils. Looking at the finished bridge and roadway you would never know that it is sitting on blocks of geofoam that were used to replace the unstable native soils.
